4 Victims Shot at Howe Community Park — Unlawful Gathering Results in Shooting





On the evening of Saturday April 18, a large unauthorized party of an estimated several hundred individuals at Howe Community Park in Sacramento in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade neighborhood turned violent when 20 to 25 rounds rang out as Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies were actively removing people from the park.

The Incident

Just after 6:30 PM, the SCSO received reports involving persons reportedly carrying concealed firearms at the Arden-Arcade park. A second report mentioned a reported fight and people leaving the area quickly.

A sheriff's helicopter was deployed and swept the area but did not locate any active disturbance.

Even so, a large crowd had gathered at the park for what the sheriff's office identified as an unsanctioned event. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies surrounded the park, activated emergency lights, and used roughly 15 minutes commanding the crowd to clear out via loudspeaker announcements.

As officers worked to clear the park, between 20 and 25 shots rang out — sending hundreds of people running in a panic.

Shooting Victims

Four victims — a female and three male victims, all young adults in their 20s — were rushed to local hospitals. Two victims had injuries classified as immediate, one with moderate injuries, and Cottage Way shooting Sacramento one had minor injuries. All four were reported in stable condition. Sacramento Metro Fire assisted with on-scene medical triage at the incident scene.

The Investigation Scene

The crime scene was located on the Cottage Way side of the park alongside the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue in Sacramento. The Home Depot store was locked down for a period of time. Further shell casings were discovered on Cottage Way, with rounds lodged found in the wrought iron fence check here around the nearby Home Depot — pointing to rounds fired in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot. Investigators and crime scene technicians worked the scene through the night.

What We Know About Suspects

According to scanner audio, it was established that a vehicle of interest — described as a Kia vehicle — was intercepted in Solano County with four detainees.
